Japanese Methane Extraction Could Trigger Tsunami
Japan is where the word tsunami originated – because they get more than their fair share. Just over 2 years ago the Tōhoku tsunami killed more than 15,000 people and triggered a nuclear disaster. You could be forgiven for thinking that is as bad as it can get – but the reality is much worse tsunamis can and will occur. A new report suggests that a 9.0 earthquake in the Nankai Trench, off the coast of Japan, could kill 300,000+ people and cause damage in the billions. It could also displace 10 million people, or 8% of the population. Many of those people would be away from home for months or years, and cause a significant strain on the economy…
Major quakes in the Nankai Trench happen every 100-150 years, and thankfully the last one (1330 deaths) was as recent as 1946, meaning Japan isn’t overdue for another, and has time to prepare.
HOWEVER, it just so happens that Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation has begun extracting methane from that very same trench, and there is a possibility that doing so could trigger an earthquake. Just like the nuclear accident, that would definitely be an avoidable tragedy.

I don’t often comment on your post; but because I truly believe that the ignorance of this intire subject is just to much, I must. The 2011 quake off Japan was no “just by chance incident”. Fraking for methane and other gases is no secret. The Japanese tried to cover up their fraking after the 2011 quake and tsunami as they realized the damage was much greater then ever expected or ever will be reported. You report as most of the social media’s and even the official Japanese report, that 15 thousand were killed. A Japanese National Police Agency report confirmed 15,882 deaths, 6,142 injured, and 2,668 people missing. I seriously can not believe that anyone with common sense can believe such a thing. Much less continue to promote it. I had a friend come back from Japan following the quake and tsunami. One entire side of the Japanese Island was hit with waves up to 133 feet high and the water driven inland up to 6 miles. The prefecture of Sendai (hardest hit by the tsunami) had over 1.5 million people in it at the time of the quake and tsunami. Prefectures all up and down the Island hand up to and well over a million souls each. As my friend tells it, the tsunami hit within thirty minutes of the quake and most people were busy trying to access the damage of it before even aware the tsunami was upon them. The tsunami took most by surprize. 2,668 missing is the official report. 2,668,000 is more like it. People are in such shock even today to hear the totals of people no longer being looked for that they can not fathom the number of missing that were wiped out to sea. Millions. Think logically next time a government tells you their offical story. Like hear in the U.S. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and while the world was told of the governments dirty laundry about dams not being fortified, leavies not being built correctly, etc… What the world was never told was while hundreds of school buses were distroyed and left stranded where the drivers had parked them after school, Thousands of homes are still vacated six years later and hundreds of thousands are still missing. The government and fema failed so greatly, there is no way they could tell the truth about the lost of life. Same in Japan, they couldnt tell the world they were fraking (with America) and caused a quake and tsunami so great it killed millions of people.
While I have no faith in the government or what they tell us, I can testify that many died in the Katrina Hurricane, but I seriously doubt “hundreds of thousands”…As a native of New Orleans, Katrina took out the weakest part of the city,…the parishes I lived in were not damaged! Also, a sea wall burst at the Lake front, and flooded quite a bit, but the levees did not break, they are huge dirt levees that hold back the Mississippi River. I used to ride my bike on top of them. There is a difference in a levee and sea wall!
Most of the people that were hit and survived had to move to other cities….that could be why they are missing. Many went to Houston, and Ohio, etc. to relatives, etc.
Extracting methane gas from undersea methane hydrate deposits in the south of Japan main island of Honshu is a much higher risks that what is being told in the media. This gas is also known as methane clathrates and very unstable and burning it will increase global warming compared to using harmless water to produce hydrogen gas that can be extracted out of the deep ocean waters in countries that have deep trenches. Drilling in earthquake regions should not be allowed, as it can do a lot more than just cause more earthquakes and tsunami. Shale gas is also another future problem as it uses fracking with chemicals to force the gas to come up out of the ground. The chemicals can contaminate ground water that will affect the drinking water of many regions. Fracking is a controversial process. The main concern about Japan is that many of their 53 nuclear power reactors are old and considered to become a future risks for leaking out radioactive elements (radiation). Some are past their life-cycle, some build on unstable foundations under their reactors, others build on known earthquake fault lines and with all of the lies and fabrication from the Electric Power Company officials to fool the Japanese government officials that were to monitor the safety of those nuclear power reactors, then it seems to be a case of the Blind leading the Blind in Japan. Japan needs to find a way to shake hands with the Chinese and both cooperate together to extract NATURAL GAS and OIL out of other regions and share together. Oil exporting countries will soon be demanding that oil must be paid for in precious metals like gold bullion, not in paper currencies, that are not backed up by gold. China has plenty of gold plus it is said they are wanting to buy 6,000 tons of more gold bullion. However how can Japanese Trading Companies obtain sufficient gold to pay for their oil imports in the future years? While the Bank of Japan seems to only have under 700 tons of gold bullion and it is unknown how much gold the Government of Japan can make available, then what Japan needs is much more as gold reserves as a back up to help continue the import of crude oil until they can develope their own joint-venture with the Chinese for oil and natural gas projects. Or for Japan to somehow purchase the Chinese currency in exchange for the Japanese Yen currency, as it seems that Russia has agreed to sell unlimited amount of oil to CHINA and accept the Chinese currency as payment for the oil. China will back up their currency with gold. What can Japan use to back up their paper currency?
