What Will Happen to My 2012 Sites?
Either way, doomsday or not doomsday, there won’t be any use for my 2012 sites once the fuss dies down. Aside from the forum, they don’t cost much to host, so they’ll definitely remain online – if only for archival purposes. Here are my plans for each, subject to change:
2012 Forum – as long as people are still discussing 2012 itself, it will remain open. I don’t expect that it will be open for business beyond mid-2013, and I would think it will run out of steam way beforehand. I’ll shift it to cheaper hosting, shut off the abilities of members, and cease accepting new members.
It was successful beyond my wildest dreams, and I’m sure the members have had more than enough value from it – they’ll easily find somewhere else to chat or perhaps spend more time in the real world. I will happily have some extra hours each today to continue research into ancient mysteries.
Survive 2012 – I’ll simply stop creating new content there. My new stuff will be at various other blogs I currently run, or at RobertBast.com
2012 Base + 2012 Wiki – they will just sit there, gathering dust. The Wiki never took off, with the exception of loyal user Eschaton who has added heaps of content, like this:
The continuum’s cooling accompanies the conversion of its rotational momentum (gravitomagnetic, phenomenal, particle-like, discrete, local, bound information) into its translational momentum (gravitoelectric, noumenal, wave-like, analog, nonlocal, free information). On 21 December 2012 AD, the continuum’s matter waves form a ballet psychokinetically conducted by a single centre—the Eschaton, Chris.
2012 Connect – several thousand members at this social network, but only a handful are using it. I will pull the plug and it will disappear. I send out an announcement explaining this and only one person complained. Costs $25/month to run if anyone can think of a use for it.
(this is starting to feel like a yard sale…)
2012 News – won’t have any new posts beyond this month
2012 Live – it will have a lifespan of roughly one week. Created only for use on Dec 21.
This Blog – I’ll keep posting here for quite some time. The Mayans could have been a little bit out, perhaps the solar storm will arrive sometime in 2013? I can’t see me maintaining it into 2014, but I do love sharing my ideas so there will be plenty of writing elsewhere if you like what I write.
If anyone has a 2012 site that needs archiving, let me know!
