Another Expert Agrees With Dark Comet Theory

February 21, 2013 – 11:31 am | No Comment

Astronomer David Asher (from Armagh University) has agreed with Bill Napier and Janaki Wickramasinghe (Cardiff University) that “dark comets” are real and dangerous.
The following quotes are from a paper by Napier and Asher published in Astronomy & Geophysics.
http://star.arm.ac.uk/preprints/2009/539.pdf

We know that about one bright comet (of absolute magnitude as bright as 7, comparable to Halley’s Comet) arrives in the visibility zone (perihelion q<5AU, say) each year from the Oort cloud. It seems to be securely established that ~1–2% of these are captured into Halleytype (HT) orbits. The dynamical lifetime of a body in such an orbit can be estimated, from which the expected number of HT comets is perhaps ~3000. The actual number of active HT comets is ~25. This discrepancy of at least two powers of 10 in the expected impact rate from comets as deduced from this theoretical argument on the one hand, and observations on the other, is …

El Pais: Robert Bast Interview Translated

Submitted by on December 19, 2012 – 7:59 amNo Comment

Courtesy of Google Translate is an interview from last night with El Pais, Spain’s #1 newspaper. Obviously the translation isn’t great, so it is for entertainment purposes only. I love the headline :)

“I believe in the Mayan prophecy when I’m in the shower”

One of the books most vilified by the scientific community in recent years Robert Bast life changed. This New Zealander, now 47, ran in the mid-nineties with a copy of Fingerprints of the Gods , where the colorful journalist Graham Hancock is expanding on the origin of men and civilizations that supposedly preceded ours and we do not know because, according to him, the Earth has experienced great cataclysms that destroyed them. Among these pages, Bast gave to what became the obsession of his life: the Mayan apocalypse.

There is the possibility that now, fifteen years later, Bast is a leading architect of the alleged Mayan prediction has become a worldwide phenomenon . It is often said that the joke that the end of the world was just around the corner with the opening spread, in 2009, of the film2012 , which included some of the ideas that Bast (“I cried a little when he saw her,” admits by phone from his home in Williamstown, Australia) took almost a decade collecting on their website, Survive2012.com : a compendium of predictions of what will happen this Friday, how to survive it and what are the safest places to doomsday only to the world of others.

A Bast, who first set up a website on the subject, it is considered an important benchmark, the cyber messiah of this new genre of Internet users who blindly believe the doomsday cabal. He has published an e-book , a manual that covers everything, as the hours spent studying the Mayan prophecies, believes it could happen this Friday. He owns most populous Forum (“500 users who do not insult,” boasts) and disseminated his word means as  National Geographic , Fox News , Playboy.  A few days after the date that had become obsessed and star world of believers, confesses that he was “a little nervous”.

How will you spend this Friday?

With my wife and my children in my refuge, on top of a mountain about an hour’s drive from Melbourne (Australia). At 500 meters above sea level and with plenty of water and food. But I will be connected to the Internet all the time.

Are the shelters to survive the apocalypse are expensive?

Not much. I bought this piece of land two years ago and left my native New Zealand to live in Australia because it is the safest place to survive what happens on Friday. But it does not take much, not a nuclear bunker or anything. Only a house that is so high that is safe from volcanoes, tsunamis and earthquakes.

Do your children have fear of the end of the world?

No, nobody in my family shares my order theories apocalypse.

Will keep you on the ball?

Children have eight, six and three years, they know nothing. My wife agrees that we leave the weekend and we have so much water and so much food to be safe. So my web forum and in it are so successful: people really believe these things do not usually have no one to speak them.

But his is a hobby, right?

It is. I work in marketing online from home. But when I started all this, in 2000, was unemployed.

How much time a day passes in the Mayan prophecy thinking?

Usually in the shower, like everyone else. Then work on it on my website, my forum and my books two, three hours a day.

Are you a celebrity the end of days, do you realize?

I wish I did more case. People who do not believe in the apocalypse gets more attention than me (the NASA video of last week, scientists …). I would like to explain my side of the story. It is quite irritating.

But I had a ball there in 2012, as a cultural apocalypse.

I’m rather disappointed. I have all the answers, spent years using legitimate science to make the most sensible interpretation of the Mayan people and insists that will not happen. The problem is, believe or not believe everything or nothing. I’m in the middle of both positions: I do not believe much of what you say, but I try to be prepared.

This of knowing how and when the world will end, is it profitable?

It is not for diinero, and earn enough with marketing. The price of my book is as low as possible to cover costs on Amazon and I just sold copies. He could have applied my knowledge of marketing to promote it and make it more  bestseller  as so many books on the subject, but that the book would have to be less specific and therefore less helpful to people. On the web advertising, have a good traffic compared to others of its style, but I will not make money.

What will happen on Friday?

The fascinating thing is that I keep changing my mind. At first thought, and this is what you see in 2012 – we were going to experience a pole shift. But the question is: what the Mayans could predict long ago just watching the stars? The return of a comet? That can not be because we would have seen. Now I think it will be a solar storm: they reach Earth gases and particles from the sun. The Mayans may have discovered a pattern in these storms could explanation centers on the gods, and note when it would be especially great. I think the most sensible.

A bit disappointing, is not it?

Well, if you go out during a solar storm just enterarías you. Would not give you heat stroke. But the gases and particles could destroy power plants. Many people would die. The cores of nuclear plants would merge. The government says it could restore the light in a week, but if indagas roles in Congress would rather see that about a year. In any case, there is no hope for America. It is covered with nuclear power plants and on each coast are his: earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis … Whatever happens, it is the worst place to live.

Europe is neither a very safe place.

It’s too crowded to withstand an earthquake, yes. I think the safest place in Europe on Friday will be Switzerland but do not know exactly where. The best place to be on Friday is Australia.
