Happy Solstice!
Tomorrow marks a self-imposed deadline – I decided that all my SHTF preparations needed to be in place by June 21, 2012, which is the winter solstice in Australia.
My reasoning is that Dec 21, 2012 is the darkest day in the Northern Hemisphere (and more noticeable the further north you are), and so it might have been chosen by the Maya for its symbolic meaning. A day of doom. And that would mean it represents the six months before and after the solstice – otherwise they would have chosen another year.
Well, I am prepared enough, ready to keep my family safe. But there’s always more than can be done, things like:
- buy a second car – something tougher than a Kia!
- get a generator for our home (already covered at the safe spot)
- get a bigger bolt cutter for the car
- buy m0re seeds
- buy more tools
Anyway, without further ado, here’s about half of our food supplies that we have at home – with much more stored at our safe spot:
The canned food is typically 4-6 cans deep. Elsewhere is water, rice etc.

I am prepared too Rob…but don’t know if I should move it to my safe place yet, or not? Things are starting to pick up and I am ready to pack up and get out of here,..but convincing the family is another problem. They may have to see it for themselves to be convinced!
I have no safespot to go to, but I do have a sturdy block house
and provisions to catch rainwater in two food grade 55 gal. barrels
and I am ordering a Big Berkey water purifying system today along
with a good (1 year) supply of dry goods and 3 months of canned
goods and 50 gallons of spring water from the grocery store. My
wonderful companion dog passed on at age 13 several months ago
so I will be looking at the pound for a new Dog during the next
month as the weather cools here in southwest Florida.I have been
experimenting with FRESNEL lenses as far as solar cooking,a good
source is Edmund Scientific.
