Another Expert Agrees With Dark Comet Theory

February 21, 2013 – 11:31 am | No Comment

Astronomer David Asher (from Armagh University) has agreed with Bill Napier and Janaki Wickramasinghe (Cardiff University) that “dark comets” are real and dangerous.
The following quotes are from a paper by Napier and Asher published in Astronomy & Geophysics.
http://star.arm.ac.uk/preprints/2009/539.pdf

We know that about one bright comet (of absolute magnitude as bright as 7, comparable to Halley’s Comet) arrives in the visibility zone (perihelion q<5AU, say) each year from the Oort cloud. It seems to be securely established that ~1–2% of these are captured into Halleytype (HT) orbits. The dynamical lifetime of a body in such an orbit can be estimated, from which the expected number of HT comets is perhaps ~3000. The actual number of active HT comets is ~25. This discrepancy of at least two powers of 10 in the expected impact rate from comets as deduced from this theoretical argument on the one hand, and observations on the other, is …

Vivos: Budget Bunker Space in Nebraska

Submitted by on June 15, 2011 – 3:46 pm2 Comments

The Vivos mega-bunker in Nebraska was already going to house up to 250 strangers together for as along as a year, at a price of $25,000 each. Presumably sales are slower than expected, as they have now released a budget offering. For just $9,950 you get a bed in a shared room, with curtains separating your room from folk next door, and food for just six months. And depending on how many people make the investment, you could be sharing with 1,000 individuals you have never met. While this will be a niche group of people, in general you would expect that there is a limit to how many random folk you can place in a situation without a strong probability that one will be a risk to the safety of the rest of the group. While that could involve criminal traits (theft, murder, rape), there will also be those who wish to become a leader. My presumption is that most of the group will not be suited to fending for themselves, so therefore they could be easily led.

While the facility certainly seems to be safe from external threats, I’m guessing the internal security measures may be inadequate. Especially considering Vivos is unlikely to have had any experience running what is essentially a prison. This is what I have found on their site:

A permanent security/caretaker will live on site to provide basic maintenance and control of member access.

Due to the prohibitive costs of staffing each Vivos facility, the actual member/co-owners perform all management and operational duties.  Each member is assigned an ongoing responsibility, based on their skills, expertise and ability, from medical, to security, operations, maintenance, meal preparation, education, exercise, communications, etc.

Based on the current demographic profiles of Vivos members, a large percentage of the co-owners at each shelter will have extensive military, law enforcement and security experience.  These members will perform the actual security and defensive duties for their shelter, both before and after lockdown.

Each facility includes a detention area should any member become a threat to the others.  The security team within each facility will be capable of handling any situation that arises.

Before signing up, I would like to know more about the large percentage of owners with extensive military, law enforcement and security experience. They actually fit the profile of people most likely to be self-reliant and capable of making their own bunker and survival plans. The opposite of those I would expect to be buying space in a mega-bunker. They also should be smart enough to know that being with 1000 potentially hysterical people in a locked building might be perilous.

These are the advantages as I see them when it comes to mega-bunkers like those being offered by Vivos, compared to a DIY bunker or shelter:

  • safe from a direct nuclear hit
  • relatively cheap
  • everything is done for you

And I see disadvantages as well:

  • prone to Lord of the Flies type scenarios
  • uncertainty regarding internal security offered
  • remote location means you might not make it to the shelter
  • you need to really trust the operators to get everything right – refunds after the SHTF are unlikely!
  • what happens after you emerge?

Getting to the mega-bunker could prove to be difficult. The official answer is that you will know when to head for Nebraska, and you will know ahead of the general population (they promise an alert service). I would think that the type of people who buy these bunker spaces will be trapped in traffic like 90% of the population.

Vivos does not provide transportation to the shelters.   Many will travel to their shelter in advance of a threat, or at the first signs, well before the general population realizes they need to evacuate.

To assist members arrival, Vivos is making arrangements with a number of helicopter and private airplane operators to ferry our co-owners to their respective shelter.  Subject to enough notice and safe conditions, some members may be picked up at a variety of pre-established rendezvous points and transported to their Vivos shelter.

Armored vehicles will also be available to transport some members from additional pre-established rendezvous locations near each Vivos shelter.  These vehicles will have a better ability to navigate and pass through potential non-member crowds that may gather at the perimeter gates.

Members need only arrive before their shelter is locked down.

In most SHTF scenarios, the helicopter and private airplane operators will not be waiting for you. They will have taken the first paying passenger they found, or just plain fled and saved their own hide. If you are capable, make your own preparations, and relying on nobody except friends and family, is a superior path to take. If you do get there, here’s something else to be worried about:

Should a co-owner member arrive after the doors have been locked and sealed they can request entry through a remote survellience and monitoring device.  If safe, the door will be re-opened and the co-owner member(s) will be swiftly ushered inside.  However, if it is determined by the majority of the members within the facility that it is unsafe to all existing inhabitants to open the door, wherein doing so may cause immediate contamination from radiation, virus, pathogens, water intrusion or any other threat, then the door may not be opened.  The key to surviving at Vivos is to arrive before it is too late to gain access.

It should really say “majority of the members who are all paranoid as hell and don’t know you and are unlikely to care about you“. Most of the threats that require a sealed door are invisible – radiation, pathogens, viruses. I couldn’t find any information on their site regarding the monitoring of situations outside, except for the radiation detectors that were part of the original facility. So if the threat really could be pathogens or viruses it could prove impossible to decide when it is safe to open the door.

While I am at it, it is extremely likely that plenty of local folk will know the location of the bunker. I can think of scenarios in which they could forcibly gain entry, like these:

  • hide and sprint for the door when a legit person gains entry
  • attack, or threaten to attack, essential services like electricity and air vents

All I can say is… good luck!

  • Vivos Buster says:

The entire Vivos marketing was built on a series of falsehoods.

    http://articles.latimes.com/2010/may/17/business/la-fi-bunkers-20100517/2

This article published in the Los Angeles Times features two “buyers” who were in fact bunker lovers who agreed to participate for the developer. How do I know this? I know this because I was the one who sent them to Robert the developer to help with the article. Vivos never closed on this site by the way. Oh and his Nebraska offering is on shaky grounds as well as Mr. Vincino refuses to come up with the cash to close the transaction (I assume) just as he failed to close on his options to purchase similar facilities in Barstow, New York and North Carolina.

Good Luck to you Vivos buyers if you do buy a space in a former AT&T communication vault as these locations are already well known by others and when the SHTF I am sure it will be a FUBAR event.
