How Will I Know If Disaster Strikes?
The short answer: for anything except for power grids going down, watch TV, listen the radio, monitor internet services. And if the power grid goes down – you will most likely notice. Unless you are asleep… If your bedside clock radio has backup batteries, remove them so that you might notice.
According to my research the most likely catastrophe that can occur on Dec 21 is a massive solar storm. This won’t harm humans directly, but by taking down power grids it could be a real tragedy. Usually we get a couple of days warning that a storm is likely, but perhaps a massive storm acts differently. These are the ways we know if a solar storm is in progress:
- Web: there are a number of sites that provide “space weather” information
- Look up: accompanying a storm of the magnitude to take down grids will be auroras everywhere (except for, possibly, places close to the equator)
- Power off? The fastest storms have made it to Earth in just a few hours, so if you missed the news, you’ll find out because your electricity is off. In this case, if you need to flee to a safe spot, do it immediately before the highways get clogged
Regarding the other types of catastrophes:
- Earthquakes – can happen without warning, but are unlikely to be global (unless there is a crustal displacement)
- Supernova – also without warning. If you aren’t underground or in a bunker, the storm of particles will get you at the same time as experts find out. If you see it happen in the sky, you might have a brief period in which you can make it underground, because light should arrive first
- Comet or Asteroid – if it is big enough to harm us globally, NASA and amateurs will see it coming. The exception is “dark comets” – they aren’t invisible, but presumably we won’t have much time to get out of their way once spotted. For an event like Tunguska, you won’t be able to know in advance, but neither could an ancient culture have predicted.
- Volcanoes – there can be some warnings, such as tremors in the region. They will not be global, unless connected to a crustal displacement in which case everything bad happens at once, as depicted in the 2012 movie
- Hurricanes – fortunately we know about these in advance and usually have a few days to prepare
- UFOs / Rapture / New Age Dimensional Shift – for everything else, keep watching news services, and keep an eye on web cams
I have built a site to make the observation of 2012 easier. 2012 Live. It only exists for people who read my work. It covers all of the above, as well as updates from services like The Extinction Protocol and Google, plus there will be some web cams.
I’ve deliberately left the launch late so that it doesn’t get too many visitors. I don’t know what the limit is, but presumably a million people visiting at once on Dec 21 and constantly reloading the pages would cause it to fail. Unlikely as that probably is, I’m unaware of any other site for watching doomsday unfold…
