A Third Type of Survivalist
Normally there are just two types of survivalists – those who get off their butt and prepare, and those that might talk about it, but never really get anything done.
If only someone could make it easier for them…
The U.S. city of Cannon Beach, Oregon will suffer a tsunami one day, and nobody knows when. While many people will have a go bag and safe spot worked out, most people will be less proactive. They’ll trust the authorities to hold their hand when the tsunami arrives, will panic when they realize they are on their own, and will quite likely not survive.
Fortunately the local government has decided to make things easier for them. On an allocated plot of high-ground land they will place several shipping containers. For a small fee you get to store a drum, barrel or bucket within the containers. It might be a cheap and dirty survival plan, but it is substantially better than nothing. By participating, people will have a clear idea of where to flee to, and they’ll have what they need to survive for a few days – fortunately tsunami victims usually get help quite quickly.
The pad is inland, east of the coastal highway, and planned for an elevation above the expected inundation level.

I really hope that the authorities have chosen a spot substantially higher than what they expect, because as we saw at Fukushima, nature can surprise the “experts”.
