It starts out by looking at the Bible as a historical record that has been exaggerated for religious purposes, and ends with an amazing find in Iran.

Ask any Biblical skeptic and they will supply you with many apparent contradictions that can be found in the Bible. This one is interesting:

Genesis 7:20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

Fifteen cubits is roughly eight meters. Either the mountains in those times were only eight meters in height, or we have a contradictory statement.

Given that it is physically impossible for mountains to be submerged for a prolonged period, I have investigated the possibility that the supernatural flood was a later addition to the story, an addition that seeks to make the Biblical god as mighty as possible.

Texts such as the Avesta and Gilgamesh predate the Bible by thousands of years, and they also tell stories so similar to that of Noah’s Ark that scholars believe the Biblical story is not the original. By inference, the Biblical Noahs’ Ark is also going to be less factual.

The Zoroastrian Avesta doesn’t describe a ship at all, but rather an underground village.

And Ahura Mazda spake unto Yima, saying: ‘O fair Yima, son of Vivanghat! Upon the material world the evil winters are about to fall, that shall bring the fierce, deadly frost; upon the material world the evil winters are about to fall, that shall make snow-flakes fall thick, even an aredvi deep on the highest tops of mountains. And the beasts that live in the wilderness, and those that live on the tops of the mountains, and those that live in the bosom of the dale shall take shelter in underground abodes.

The dimensions of the underground abode were given as roughly a mile wide and a mile long. The Bible says the ark had three levels. A recent discovery in Iran fits those dimemsions, and I believe it is a strong candidate for the original Noah’s Ark:

Archaeologists believe that a three-story underground city, recently unearthed in central Iran, used to function as a collective shelter for its residents in wake of relentless invasions.

The city, lying beneath the small town of Nushabad near Kashan, features labyrinth-like architectural structures, starting 2.5 meters under the surface and running 18 meters deep. .. The team is now working on two workshops on both ends of the 170-hectare town of Nushabad. They have already concluded the corridors are interconnected through the maze-like city, but they still wonder if the whole complex has three stories.

Photos from Nushabad show that the underground structure is more than primitive tunnels:

Read the full story:
Noah’s Ark in Iran

If you follow my line of thinking, you might just agree with my hypothesis.
