And when you are someone like me who makes crazy declarations that &#8220;pyramids are bunkers&#8221;, then each time\u00a0 a new subterranean chamber is opened, it could contain evidence that supports my position.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/feathered-snake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5060\" alt=\"feathered-snake\" src=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/feathered-snake.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/feathered-snake.jpg 440w, http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/feathered-snake-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A small robot has discovered three possible burial chambers under a temple in Mexico\u2019s pre-Hispanic city of Teotihuacan, a find that may reveal secrets about funeral rituals in the ancient site.<\/p>\n<div>The robot, dubbed Tlaloc II-TC, located the chambers in the last section of \u00a0a 2,000-year-old tunnel tucked under the Temple of the Feathered Snake, \u00a0surprising archeologists who had expected to find just one room.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The National Anthropology and History Institute said the find could shed \u00a0light on the burial rituals of the rulers of Teotihuacan, which is some 40 \u00a0kilometers (25 miles) from Mexico City.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The mystery-filled ancient city is known for its majestic pyramids of the \u00a0sun and the moon, but little is known about the people who inhabited the site.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Teotihuacan, whose name means \u201cCity of Gods,\u201d had long been abandoned when \u00a0Aztecs arrived in the area in the 1300s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The tunnel under the Temple of Quetzacoatl, or Feathered Snake, was \u00a0discovered after heavy rain uncovered a hole in the ground in 2003.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tlaloc II-TC, named after the Aztec god of rain, was made to navigate rough \u00a0terrain and is equipped with an infrared camera and a scanner that generates \u00a0detailed maps.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The next step in the research will be to remove rubble blocking the last 30 \u00a0meters (98 feet) of the 120-meter (394-foot) long tunnel, the anthropology \u00a0institute said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Archeologists believe the obstruction hides a staircase that \u00a0goes down three to four meters deeper below ground.<\/div>\n<div>[Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/latest\/robot-discovers-chambers-under-ancient-mexico-temple-1.263854?localLinksEnabled=false\">New Straits Times<\/a>]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What I love about archaeology is that new things are being unearthed all the time.
