NASA have five meat products that have a long shelf life, and it is not surprising that one of them is Spam.<\/p>\n<p>One of the the problems with long-distance space travel is that people soon get bored. One way of alleviating that is to add variety to their meals. Here&#8217;s one idea that was <a href=\"http:\/\/hi-seas.org\/?p=1574\">cooked up<\/a> in Hawaii:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Spam-Musubi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5051\" alt=\"Spam-Musubi\" src=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Spam-Musubi.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Spam-Musubi.jpg 400w, http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Spam-Musubi-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SPAM MUSUBI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Recipe Ingredients: (serving of 6)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups cooked short grained Japanese rice<\/li>\n<li>1 cans Spam<\/li>\n<li>3 sheets nori, cut in 2\u2033 strips lengthwise<\/li>\n<li>1\/3 cup shoyu<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 cup sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Instructions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut Spam into 6 slices per can.<\/li>\n<li>Combine sugar and shoyu in a pan over medium-low heat.<\/li>\n<li>Fry spam in sugar and shoyu until mixture has thickened and Spam is slightly crispy.<\/li>\n<li>Drain on absorbent towel.<\/li>\n<li>Cut sheets of nori into 2 inch strips.<\/li>\n<li>Using a Spam can, \u00a0cut out 1\/2 inch rice cakes.<\/li>\n<li>Place a rice cake on a nori sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Place cooked Spam on top of rice cake.<\/li>\n<li>Fold nori over the rice and spam, until the nori is wrapped completely around the middle like a belt.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat until Spam, rice and nori are used up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Hawaii six people are living in a geodesic dome, experimenting with they types of food that astronauts can eat when they journey to Mars.
