I’m not convinced that sinkholes are anything more natural\u00a0occurrences\u00a0that occasionally get a\u00a0kick-start\u00a0from human activities. Certainly the\u00a0apparent\u00a0rise in the number of sinkholes worldwide seems to be merely an increase in reporting. Still, you never know!<\/p>\n

A massive sinkhole in Guangzhou, China, swallowed up buildings and knocked out power to thousands of residents. According to Shanghaiist, the sinkhole is about 3,230 square feet and plenty deep. A video<\/a> shows a crowd milling about the sinkhole before it expanded, causing a building to crumble as if it were detonated.<\/p>\n
