But these aren&#8217;t exactly unexpected. There&#8217;s always one erupting somewhere, affecting a few people. But when was the last time one made the pages of your newspaper?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>solar storms<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; we are supposedly reaching the peak of the solar cycle &#8211; last I heard it was to be early 2013. Bizarrely and ironically (given the Mayan doomsday and my guess as to what they were predicting), the Sun is not behaving as predicted. Five years ago NASA said it would be one of the biggest solar maximums (number of sunspots) ever. Then it gradually was revised down to a quiet peak. And now the peak isn&#8217;t even peaking!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/?attachment_id=4709\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4709\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4709\" title=\"solar_cycle_24\" src=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/solar_cycle_24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/solar_cycle_24.jpg 512w, http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/solar_cycle_24-300x230.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>SpaceWeather.com say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Barely-increasing sunspot counts and anemic solar activity suggest an interesting possibility: Perhaps Solar Max has already passed. This plot of measured vs. predicted sunspot numbers illustrates the idea.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The red line is the predicted number of sunspots by the NOAA-led\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/SolarCycle\/SC24\/index.html\">Solar Cycle Prediction Panel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a prediction for you: in January we will have a killer quake, a massive solar storm that takes out satellites, and a volcano that disrupts the economy.
