Chinaman is such an antiquated term, but I’m not sure if it is un-PC… oh well….<\/p>\n

This bloke from China has taken the bull by the horns and built a survival pod:<\/p>\n

According to the Daily Mail<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Liu Qiyuan (a farmer from China)\u00a0<\/span>created the f<\/span>ibreglass shells – dubbed Noah’s Ark – after<\/span>\u00a0being\u00a0<\/span>inspired by the apocalyptic Hollywood movie 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n
….Building them around a steel frame in a yard at his home\u00a0<\/span>in the village of Qiantun, Hebei province, south of Beijing, he says the pods can offer life-saving shelter during natural disasters such as tsunamis and hurricanes.<\/span><\/p>\n
The pods are able to float on water and some of have their own propulsion.

The airtight spheres with varying interiors contain oxygen tanks and seatbelts with space for around 14 people, and are designed to remain upright when in water.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
It’s not a perfect solution, unfortunately… As we have seen from recent tsunamis, it is often not death by drowning, but rather death by being thrown against sharp and heavy stuff by the torrents. Likewise, while\u00a0float-ability\u00a0is important, what happens when you get slammed at 50 knots into something pointy?<\/p>\n
The solution is to add spikes to the exterior, so that it resembles a seed pod. The spikes become crumple zones.<\/p>\n
