I find it bizarre that people are inspired to head there for the &#8220;end of the world&#8221;. If this was an episode of <em>Twilight Zone,<\/em> they&#8217;d all suffer a fate worthy of their petulance.<\/p>\n<p>As an extreme example, there is a resort in Mexico called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayaland.com\">Mayaland<\/a>, as in Disneyland. It&#8217;s mostly not Mayan in terms of attractions, but there are some touches:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Balankanche:<\/strong> This cavern functioned as a ceremonial center for the ancient Mayas. At the entrance is the throne of Balam, a kind of altar, which gives its name to the caves. In the center of the vault an imposing stalactite, reaching down to the floor resembles a giant Ceiba tree.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Regardless, the point I wish to make is the level of interest in being in the Yucatan peninsula for Dec 2012. Right now you can book accommodation at Mayaland for $69\/night. But in late December guess how much more it costs?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/?attachment_id=4097\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4097\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4097\" title=\"mayaland\" src=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/mayaland1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, I can&#8217; t tell you &#8211; it is booked out &#8211; but according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therecord.com\/living\/travel\/article\/808848--travel-mexico-s-yucatan-state-offers-a-worry-free-glimpse-at-an-ancient-civilization\">The Record<\/a> it will cost in excess of $1000 per night.<\/p>\n<p>I presume the people who have booked such expensive accommodation are the type who feel superior to ancient prophecy, and they will eat and drink well and sleep deeply. The polar opposite of preppers.<\/p>\n<p>I get denying the possibilities of EOTW situations &#8211; it is quite likely that in our lifetime we won&#8217;t face one, although in the long term it is inevitable. But why would you head to the source of the prophecy and tempt fate?
