The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has announced a series of biological tests that they will be conducting in subway systems near Boston. DHS will be releasing bacteria into the MBTA tunnels, in what they say are tests to evaluate sensors installed in the tunnel system.<\/p>\n DHS officials insist that the bacteria release, a dead bacteria called B-subtilis, will have no adverse health risks on healthy individuals. \u00a0What this means for people with compromised immune systems isn\u2019t known, DHS hasn\u2019t publicly commented on that. It doesn’t seem too serious to me – according to the Wikipedia page on Bacillus subtilis<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n B. subtilis is only known to cause disease in severely immunocompromised patients, and can conversely be used as a probiotic in healthy individuals. It may contaminate food but rarely causes food poisoning.<\/p>\n It was marketed throughout America and Europe from 1946 as an immunostimulatory aid in the treatment of gut and urinary tract diseases …but declined in popularity after the introduction of cheap consumer antibiotics, despite causing less chance of allergic reaction and significantly lower toxicity to normal gut flora.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n So, as long as the authorities warn people who are severely immunocompromised<\/em>, everything should be OK – and it makes sese to actually test that the sensors work in that environment.<\/p>\n Coincidentally I came across an article<\/a>\u00a0today that tells how widespread bio-terrorism drills are in the USA:<\/p>\n Since the election of Barack Obama in 2008, there has been over\u00a0175 bio-terror drills in America<\/a>\u00a0which have conditioned first responders, law enforcement and military for an upcoming bio-terror attack and subsequent pandemic. The fact that these bio-terror drills exist in mass confirms that bio-terror attack is in the cards and may be played in a last ditch effort to regain political, economic and militarial control of society.
