McKenna allegedly arrived at a Nov 2012 date prior to learning of the Long Count calendar. He proposed a <em>singularity of infinite complexity in 2012, at which point anything and everything imaginable will occur simultaneously<\/em>. The methodology is interesting, but not scientific given that previous peaks of novelty were determined using his own personal and cultural biases.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1878\" href=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/2011\/08\/novelty-1876.html\/mckenna\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1878\" title=\"McKenna\" src=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/McKenna-245x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/McKenna-245x300.jpg 245w, http:\/\/survive2012.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/McKenna.jpg 327w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, if McKenna was correct, we can expect to see a lot of movement in certain areas leading up to late 2012. These areas would involve the building blocks where man and machine and can rapidly innovate. Here&#8217;s some <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">news from today<\/span> that is food for thought:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Artificial Animals<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Researchers say they have created the first ever animal with artificial information in its genetic code.\u00a0The technique, they say, could give biologists &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-14492948\">atom-by-atom control<\/a>&#8221; over the molecules in living organisms<\/em>. It won&#8217;t be long before scientists are building living animals, of their own design, in petri dishes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anti-Virus Drug<\/strong> &#8211; Not a drug that kills a particular virus, but one that <a href=\"http:\/\/healthland.time.com\/2011\/08\/11\/mit-scientists-develop-a-drug-to-fight-any-viral-infection\/\">kills them all<\/a>. It is being tested on animals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gene Therapy Cures Cancer<\/strong> &#8211; <em>Two of three patients dying of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/cancer\/news\/20110810\/gene-therapy-cures-adult-leukemia\">appear cured<\/a> and a third is in partial remission after infusions of genetically engineered T cells<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other areas which are showing rapid increases in innovation are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alternative \/ Renewable Energy<\/strong> &#8211; I predict we will have virtually free solar energy within 20 years<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robotics<\/strong> &#8211; Advances are being made in every direction, and when someone merges all the innovations, we&#8217;ll have a walking, talking, thinking robot<\/li>\n<li><strong>Self-repair systems<\/strong> &#8211; Where a structure or machine has the ability to fix itself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nanotechnology<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Remote and Automated Warfare<\/strong> &#8211; No humans in battle<\/li>\n<li><strong>Semantic Web<\/strong> &#8211; soon software will crawl the web and make decisions&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While none of these things on their own will create singularity, we are on the cusp of a number of advances that collectively could.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s\u00a0roller-coaster\u00a0share market\u00a0ride could be a symptom of change becoming the norm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The novelty theory of the late Terrence McKenna is a mainstay of 2012 discussions.
