Primarily because it is <em>just a hill<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Yet when you look at the figures, it was quite an achievement for its era (massive pyramids and mounds worldwide):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8\u00a0million man-hours<\/li>\n<li>or 500 men working for 15\u00a0years<\/li>\n<li>40 metres high<\/li>\n<li>248,000 cubic metres of soil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>After thorough <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/science\/2011\/may\/31\/malborough-mound-wiltshire-silbury-neolithic\">excavations<\/a>, the Marlborough mound is now thought to be around 4,400 years old, making it roughly contemporary with the nearby, and far more renowned, Silbury Hill.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was built at a time that many other major structures were created, suggesting either a unified force or at least a connection between societies. I&#8217;m hoping this news will help uncover a new system\/pattern, especially considering Howden Hill is exactly due east of Silbury Hill.
