Great article in the Miami New Times last week, profiling preppers and survivalists like these folk:
Jorge Villa – after a terrifying experience during Hurricane Andrew he devised his own bunkers, and sells them to folk – some of whom are worried about the end of the Mayan calendar – via his business U.S. Bunkers
Neal Wiseman – moderates a group called the South Florida Survivalist Network, and has a year’s worth of food stored for his family, should the need arise:

Chris Petrovich – prepper for 25 years. He has helped others “cache extra fuel and food, stashed in public-storage units and underground, at intervals on an 800-to-1,200-mile path out of Florida. Amid darkness and chaos, skirting burning sugarcane fields and accidents and roadblocks, they’ll drive from cache to cache toward a secret inland hiding spot, exhausting the last available remnants of the petroleum age.”

The Great Escape: 20 People Leaving the Matrix

I think it is fair to say, that as 2012 approaches, more and more radical interpretations, and reactions, will become known to us. Hopefully nothing as extreme as Heaven’s Gate.
This group of 20 or so Belgians mention 2012 a fair bit, but say they feel the world is doomed, with or without the end of the Mayan Calendar.
The 2012 folks on the net might be more dangerous than what will actually happen to you some 4 years from now… These prophecy folks are after two things, your mind or your money.
They have decided to leave the Matrix, and invite others to join them:
Requirements are:- age between 20 and 40, preferably couples- no kids or pets- good mental and physical health- intelligent and specific useful knowledge (see previous posts)- fluently French or Spannish and English (the more languages the better)- be ready to leave home, car, work, money, family and …
