The standard model of New World migration still stands – people left Asia, crossed the Beringia Land Bridge, and populated the Americas as they headed south.
According to National Geographic, DNA sequence studies show:
… humans heading east after leaving Asia about 40,000 years ago were blocked by two huge glaciers that met at present-day Alaska.
With no way forward, the humans settled on the land bridge, called Beringia, that connected Asia and North America.
There they remained for 20,000 years.
It’s a bit of a stretch, but perhaps either:

In a recent documentary on Stonehenge I was surprised to learn that even though there were houses and facilities for large gatherings, most of the year nobody was home.
To me this sounded a bit odd, surely there would be guards to keep out squatters?
I now think there were, because it has been determined a large timber fence ran for 2 miles protecting the monument from one direction. Experts are saying it was to stop prying eyes from seeing rituals, others say it was to keep out drifting snow. While it may have served both of those purposes, I think it was more akin to the Berlin Wall – a year round barrier that could be manned by a handful of soldiers, regardless of whether there was a ritual happening or not.
For the first time since 1913 we have had a month without a single sunspot. The 7 months prior to August averaged a very low 3 sunspots. This is the most likely cause for global temperatures dropping this year. Is it something we should be concerned about?
On the one hand, we could be heading into a “mini-Ice Age” that coincided with the Maunder Minimum of 1645 to 1715. This would mean colder weather and nothing an extra layer of clothing and a million glasshouses won’t fix.
On the other hand, it could just be “one of those things” and come right soon.
Or, there is grave concern that the Sun is building up to an almighty Coronal Mass Ejection or similar, in 2012, that could wipe out humankind.

Since when does halving something mean a mirror image of dates, from BC to AD?

The phrase “blame it on the weather” takes new meaning in light of research suggesting that regional climate may very well have been responsible for the evolution of lifestyle, culture and even religion in the Middle East.
So says a Discovery.com news item that states that the Middle East, between 11,000 and 10,300 years ago, experienced a period of climate change, becoming colder and more arid. And consequently this created a cultural split between those who went on to live in the new desert, and those who lived in more fertile regions. These cultural differences can be traced back genetically.
Could it be that rather than just “blame it on the weather”, we can theorise that a pole shift was the cause of the major climate change, and that such a cataclysm would have been an additional factor in the emergence of different cultures.

The Jewish calender suggests a similar event to the ancient Mayan calendar, suggests Nina Amir:

Any book that mentions 2012 and breaks into the Top 100 at Amazon is certainly worth a look. And while I feel it is my duty to read everything on 2012, I figure I mightn’t like this one much
I have not read this book (still in pre-release), but from his work online I suspect that it is yet another case of conjuring proof from numbers.

What if the end date of the ancient Mayan Long Count calendar was not meant to be taken literally?
The first question you need to ask is this: Dec 21 is also the Winter Solstice (in the northern hemisphere) – the darkest day of the year, so it is a coincidence or deliberate?
The second question is, if the date is deliberate, then why?
If there is a scientific basis to the Long Count calendar, if it is ultimately reflecting a scientific prediction, then there are still more questions:
Is there anything about a Winter Solstice than can cause a catastrophe?
Could an ancient culture predict a catastrophe, thousands of years away, accurate to a single day?
Or is Dec 21, 2012 a symbolic date for a scientific prediction for approximately Dec 2012?
What we do know:
The ancient Germanic people celebrated the solstice with Yule logs
The very ancient Newgrange tomb in Ireland is aligned to the winter …

On most days there’s less than five quakes listed, and often just one or two. Today there are 39!
To be fair, when there’s a really big quake, a lot of aftershocks will make the list – so to account for them the list really looks like this:

Our Sun operates on a cycle that takes roughly 11 years to complete. While the key indicator for when the cycle is at its peak is the number of sun spots, the root cause is the reversal of the Sun’s magnetic poles. And for some reason that scientists cannot explain, the Sun’s poles are currently out of step with each other:
