The earthquake’s epicentre was recorded at shallow depth near Ernabella, 415km north west of Coober Pedy and about 320km south west of Alice Springs, just before 8pm.
Geoscience Australia reported the quake could have been felt by people up to 500km away and damage experienced within a 40km radius of the epicentre.
…The earthquake was the most powerful in Australia since a 6.3 magnitude quake off Collier Bay, on Western Australia’s north coast, on August 10, 1997.
I figure it almost makes a case for the 188-day earthquake cycle – it was just outside the predicted days, and it wasn’t the biggest of quakes, but for Australia it was huge. Keep in mind that unlike Japan / NZ / Chile etc, the middle of Australia is the middle of a tectonic plate, not the edge.
Survivalist and Prepper websites have been reporting that the Department of Homeland Security has been paying them a visit – for example Off Grid Survival:

I’m actually on vacation (my last for perhaps a very long time…), so I’ve not been able to fully investigate this, but here goes:
Chile — February 27, 2010 — 8.8-magnitude
New Zealand — September 4, 2010 — 7.1-magnitude
Japan — March 11, 2011 — 9.1-magnitude
Fiji — September 15, 2011 — 7.2-magnitude
The dates fall between 186 and 190 days apart. Partially due to time zones – the NZ quake was September 3 USA time, and partially due to the organic nature of the processes involved – just like rainy seasons don’t begin on the same day each year, but roughly the same time.
The next date in the cycle is/was March 21-23, 2012 and so it happens there’s a big 7.4 quake in Mexico City that fits the pattern. And there’s still time for another somewhere.

Lake Cuitzeo is the second largest freshwater lake in Mexico. Located in Michoacán State, it is just north of Morelia city.
The idea that a comet caused a global catastrophe 13,000 years ago was popularized by the 2006 book The Cycles of Cosmic Catastrophes by Firestone, West and Warwick-Smith. The few mistakes that could be found in their evidence-filled book were seized upon by academics. Their evidence included spherules and nanodiamonds. On pages 223/224 they tell of a 3,400 pound meteorite that was discovered wrapped in a ceremonial burial cloth. And they share an ancient Toltec/Aztec tale about a rain of meteorites that caused 25 years of darkness. It is suggested that they are referring to this very same event.

As you can see, this X5 flare is much bigger than the X1 flare that occurred just 20 hours ago. As a comparison, last August we had an X6.9. The major storm of 2003 had an X17.2 flare, whilst the 1989 flare that took out a power grid in Canada was an X15. The biggest recorded in modern times was an X20.

Seed banks are incredibly valuable resources, and an acknowledgement that sometimes there SHTF events that require emergency backups. Seed banks can help restart horticulture in the event of a natural disaster or spread of a disease. But what if harm comes to the seed bank itself? Wars have destroyed seed banks in Iraq and Afghanistan. And during last year’s uprising in Egypt a seed bank was looted.
Sensibly the Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas – based in Syria – have decided to send a duplicate collection of their seeds to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. It’s a doomsdat bunker for seeds, located in the Norwegian Arctic. In total, 25000 new samples are being sent to Svalbard this week, bringing the total stored there to an incredible 740,000. The asteroid, known as DA14, will pass by our planet in February 2013 at a distance of under 27,000 km (16,700 miles). This is closer than the geosynchronous orbit of some satellites.

Earth orbiting satellites detected an X1-class solar flare at Mar 5, 04:13 UTC. Radiation storms and radio blackouts are possible. X-class flares are much more significant that the C-class and M-class flares that other doomsday sites make mention of. X1 is still pretty small, but if any X-class flares happen I’ll blog about them ASAP. The NOAA charts below are self-updating, so ignore them if you are reading this 3+ days beyond the post date.

What if the end date of the ancient Mayan Long Count calendar was not meant to be taken literally?
The first question you need to ask is this: Dec 21 is also the Winter Solstice (in the northern hemisphere) – the darkest day of the year, so it is a coincidence or deliberate?
The second question is, if the date is deliberate, then why?
If there is a scientific basis to the Long Count calendar, if it is ultimately reflecting a scientific prediction, then there are still more questions:
Is there anything about a Winter Solstice than can cause a catastrophe?
Could an ancient culture predict a catastrophe, thousands of years away, accurate to a single day?
Or is Dec 21, 2012 a symbolic date for a scientific prediction for approximately Dec 2012?
What we do know:

The very ancient Newgrange tomb in Ireland is aligned to the winter …

It lists every earthquake greater than 5.0 for the last week, and it is updated in real-time.
On most days there’s less than five quakes listed, and often just one or two. Today there are 39!
To be fair, when there’s a really big quake, a lot of aftershocks will make the list – so to account for them the list really looks like this:

Our Sun operates on a cycle that takes roughly 11 years to complete. While the key indicator for when the cycle is at its peak is the number of sun spots, the root cause is the reversal of the Sun’s magnetic poles. And for some reason that scientists cannot explain, the Sun’s poles are currently out of step with each other:
