A New Type of Portable Charger
Your survival equipment might include something that charges over USB. For example, an iPad with hundreds of survival books stored on it. When the SHTF and there’s no electricity and/or you are on the road, how will you recharge your device? You’ll be OK if you have a car and the right socket. You’ll be fine if you have a way of using solar power. But if neither of those are available to you – say you are near a volcanic eruption and the ash is disrupting those two options – then this gadget might be able to help. All you need is something combustible, like twigs, leaves or paper. in other words, you should never run out of fuel!
Oh yeah, it’s also a camping stove, so you can cook on it, boil water, or just keep yourself warm. The BioLite Camp Stove is available to order now, shipping in …
NASA: Catastrophic Floods Happen
When NASA say catastrophic floods they are not talking about Hurricane Katrina. Check this out:
Geologists would learn that the waters could have drowned a 40-story skyscraper, making them 20 times deeper than the Hurricane-Katrina-triggered flooding that destroyed swaths of New Orleans and the Gulf coast in 2005. Computer modeling would reveal that in the upper Grand Coulee, water charged over the cliff now called Dry Falls at the highway speed of 65 miles per hour. Dry Falls would be recognized as the largest waterfall to have existed on Earth, carrying 10 times as much water as all modern rivers combined.
The article is discussing the Washington state canyon known as Grand Coulee, and the history of discovering what caused its creation. Modern opinion is that the flooding was due to glacial melting at the end of the last Ice Age. I found the final paragraph interesting, considering NASA is very much …
Crazy EOTW Video in Russian
When researching 2012 stuff, every now and then something poking fun at the meme lightens the doom for me. I found this video on a Ukranian 2012 site. Take a look, it’s only 52 seconds in length:
In case you don’t understand Russian, the reporter is initially discussing the price of electricity.
Tortuguero Monument 6 – The Full Story
For a very long time the Mayan doomsday meme revolved around the extraordinary idea that an ancient culture would have a calendar that ended in the distant future. A future we live in…
In recent months archaeologists and the media have spun the attention towards Tortuguero Monument 6, the only piece of evidence that connects Dec 21 2012 with a story. And the story is conveniently vague and half-erased…
For me, the end date in December rules supreme, and the mystery of its origin drives my survival plans. But for those who want to delve into obscure academic aspects of the date, there can be no safer and finer essay than that of Geoff Stray. Please read The Tortuguero Prophecy Unravelled over at Graham Hancock’s site:
This has led to some important new discoveries as Jenkins has just revealed in his The 2012 Story, which is hot off the press. Grofe discovered that …
More Mayan Pyramids in the USA?
It’s not hard to make the link. In the early first century, Mayan civilization was on the decline, and up in the USA earthern mounds were being built – and corn was introduced.
That the structures were not as elaborate suggests that it was only working class Mayans that fled.
Around 200 AD Indians in Florida and Georgia began the construction of enormous earthen pyramids. At the same time corn also arrived in Florida. Corn is a native crop of Mexico and archaeologist William Sears, who first discovered this evidence of corn agriculture in Florida, argued in his book that it must have come from Mexico or Central America.
Farewell Thumb Knuckle / Prepper Declared Insane
Doomsday Preppers (currently screening on NatGeo in the USA) is reality TV, so of course it includes some drama. And what happened to Tim Ralston certainly wasn’t scripted:
Meanwhile, David Sarti, who also appeared on the show, has been declared insane. Yet it might all come down to his SHTF beliefs.
He visited a cardiologist and after refusing treatment ended up being kept in a psychiatric unit for evaluation – seemingly because the cardiologist felt Sarti was suicidal. You’d like to think a cardiologist wouldn’t be allowed to make such a call! Sarti was consequently released, with no further action taken, except for one very cruel twist: due to his brief stay at a psych facility, he has been deemed by the Tennessee state to be mentally defective and unfit to own a gun. Yet he is a survivalist… ironic.
Here’s Sarti telling his story:
In the second video he makes it clear that …
False Flag Damage Control
It is well known that governments do their best to hide news they would rather we didn’t hear. Sometimes they pass laws at midnight before a public holiday. Sometimes they make bigger news to drown out the embarassing news…
The News They Don’t Want You To Hear
During the trial of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (the Underwear Bomber) Kurt Haskell tells a court how he witnessed:
Umar bypassing passport control and security checks at Amsterdam airport
Despite Umar declaring that more bombs were on board, the plane taxied to the terminal, and officers did not look for more bombs, nor did they check the luggage of disembarking passengers
The bomb was impossibly defective
Umar was known as a terrorist, yet was allowed to board a US-bound flight
But Hear This: Terrorist Attempts To Blow Up Capitol
“The FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police arrested a Moroccan man Friday in downtown Washington after a lengthy investigation into an alleged plot …
New Sinkholes in Mexico and China
These were found at Andrey Eroshin’s blog:
Mexico
10.02.12. Massive sinkhole a diameter of 25 meters and a depth of 40 meters was formed in the middle of a field of three communities Buen Abrigo, Coyote and Los Ángeles near the city of Matamoros.
China
09.02.12. Near reservoir Nanshan in province Zhejiang after the sudden collapse was formed hole with a diameter of about 15 meters and a depth of about 40 meters.
Not All Bunkers Cost $1 Million
SouthernPrepper1 is one of the best survivalists on YouTube. Nothing fancy, but lots of basic, real information and experiences. Here he shows us bunker which he has stored some supplies in. For many scenarios a bunker does not need to protect you long-term, but rather for just a few days. And if that’s the case, your supplies can be kept elsewhere, in more basic surroundings:
He dug his bunker by hand, and used telegraph poles for support. But as he points out in the video, there are many types of soil, so don’t copy him unless you know what you are doing!
Super-Rugged Smart Phones
A global SHTF event is unlikely to leave us with mobile phone services in the long-term. But smart phones are more than just phones, and they can be very useful even without the phone aspect. Primarily, you can store ebooks on them – just make sure that the books are actually on your phone and not in the “cloud”.
There are two things that are really important when it comes to choosing a survivalist smart phone – battery life and durability. Unfortunately we don’t yet have smart phones that are light on batteries… so perhaps get a Kindle as well.
These are the only rugged smart phones to date:
Casio G-Shock
It looks quite similar to the G-Shock watches that Casio make (and I choose to wear). It is shock-resistant (10 feet drop), pressure-resistant (1.0 ton) and water-resistant (1.0 bar). I’d like to get one of these when they are released. So far all …
World’s Smallest Survival Pod
From Japan of course.
Only $4000. They have hundreds of pre-orders, but I couldn’t find out how I could get one – the manufacturer is Cosmo Power, but their website is in Japanese…
The craft is 1.2 meters in diameter, is made of fortified fibreglass, it can hold four adults and it has reportedly survived crash tests. It comes with built-in breathing vents and windows. The capsules cost just $4000 and they have advance orders for 600 already.

Epigenetics Update / Supervolcano Alert
Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression or cellular phenotype caused by mechanisms other than changes in the underlying DNA sequence (more at Wikipedia).
There is a lot of evidence that epigenetic modifications can last two generations. For example, if your mother was a Holocaust survivor, you could be more prone to post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as your children. Researchers have been trying to discover if such changes can last longer, and become a permanent genetic fixture. Evolution in other words.
This is of great interest to catastrophists – it could mean that global cataclysms were a major ingredient in human evolution. And could again…
DNA extracted from the bones of an extinct bison shows that the environment influenced the way the animal’s genes worked without altering the genetic code. It is the best evidence yet that such epigenetic changes can be fossilized.
…most of the methylations they found were …
USA Govt: Mega Snitch List
I’ve mentioned previously how survivalists could show up on government radar if store owners decide that buying supplies with cash is suspicious – the purchaser could be a terrorist! As it happens, there are 25 different flyers asking for public informants, covering a wide variety of businesses. Here are the worst for 2012ers:
Bulk Fuel Distributors — New customers not from the area, those using cash for large transactions, nervous, large purchases, having a rental vehicle.
Farm Supply Stores — New customers not from the area, nervous or impatient, suspicious inquiries regarding equipment specifications, failing to state legitimate use for supplies, rental vehicle, cash for large transactions.
Home Improvement and Large Retail Stores — Large quantity of ammunition, firearms and ammunition out of season, combination of unusual items, interest in night vision and camouflage apparel, purchases of pipe fittings and supplies, rental vehicle, refusal to complete firearms paperwork, using cash for large transactions.
Martial …
Galactic Centre to Erupt in 2013
At the heart of every galaxy there is thought to be a supermassive black hole. Our black hole is known as Sagittarius A*, and as far as these go, it is very quiet. But that could change in 2013 when a “suicidal gas cloud” gets sucked into it, causing the release of a lot of radiation. This is the first time I have heard of such an event in our galaxy, so it is interesting that they predict it to occur so close to 2012.
The kilo-electronvolt X-ray emission of Sgr A* may brighten significantly when the cloud reaches pericentre. There may also be a giant radiation flare several years from now if the cloud breaks up and its fragments feed gas into the central accretion zone. [Nature]
Since Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) first started observing Sgr A* in 1992 they have seen just two stars …
What If Money Goes 100% Digital?
The long term trend is obvious to any Sci-Fi fan – one day all transactions will be cashless. We might even have a universal currency known as credits!
There are some indications in Europe that the shift away from cash has begun:
Italy - since 4th December 2011 amounts above € 1000 can no longer be paid in cash. This is to help stop tax avoidance, supposedly.
Belgium – soon the maximum for cash transactions will be € 5,000, down from € 15,000, for the same reason
EU – a directive has been issued regarding how they will enable a cashless society
Now a cashless society means that authorities get to track all transactions. And in the USA they are equating survivalist purchases with terrorism. So Preppers should probably only use trusted suppliers, and only pay cash.
And while cash can be kept safe, digital money can be taken from you with the click of a …
