35377 People Have Voted… Nothing Wins
Since October 2006 I have been running a poll at Survive 2012, and with 35377 votes I think we have an accurate reflection of what visitors to my site think will happen in 2012:
Nothing wins, with just over 56% of the vote. I was surprised that TEOTWAWKI came in second, and that aliens beat a religious rapture. Over half of my visitors are from the USA, and I would’ve expected rapture to do better than last.
Most people find Survive 2012 by searching for “2012″ in their favorite search engine, and for many it is the first site they visit after discovering the 2012 meme. Consequently poll respondents are likely to be new to the concept and yet to form their final opinion. I would expect a poll of the general public (rather than people already interested in 2012) would have 99%+ saying that nothing will happen in 2012.

I have never believed in pointing any particular time, Rob. Imho it in an era, and it will forever be known as the 2012 era. 56% saying nothing will happen, is well,,,,ridiculous. what is the percentage of the undecided or the don’t care votes? It is a cyclic culmination we are going through, it may not end on 2012. However i think will come to an exponentially driven epiphany. An image cometh. Nm156, lamonema, newdawnrising – disclose.tv
The image is of a white giant from the north. An ice-age comes.
You should have noted whether or not the people who answered the poll were very well educated on the subject. Many, if not most of the population, view 2012 with a disregard and rightly believe that there are hoaxes and scam artists involved, exploiting the situation. No one wants to get scammed like thousands did during the falsified Y2K bug.
Those who do tend to subscribe to the 2012 end of the world theory often drag other personal and psychological issues into the picture as well, just complicating the equation to a greater extent. Global catastrophe preparation and education cannot be vindicated by these “kooks”.
Information that is presented on the subject must be unbiased and factual, as in “The End” issue of Scientific American. See:
http://survive2012.com/news/2010/09/scientific-american-the-end-issue.html
If there was some sort of global awareness program, without hype, exaggeration or extensive speculation, the results of a similar poll would obviously be different.
While the poll obviously isn’t perfect (Joomla offers a poll widget so I enabled it…), because academics are sure it is all nonsense, they’ll never make a poll. And market research companies won’t do it unless someone pays them, I’m guessing at a minimum many thousands of dollars. So this is the best 2012 poll there will perhaps ever be. For amusement only!
Personally, I’m open minded, but not assuming anything. Who knows what will happen. Whatever does happen, hopefully it will be good.
I mean, whatever, including nothing. Whether something happens, whatever that might be, or nothing happens, hopefully it will be good.
I agree with broisaac that you should have noted if the people who answered were well educated on the subject. Scientist knows obviously more than a non-scientist about the 2012 issue and can answer it perfectly fine. I know myself that I am surtenly not sure of what will happen in 2012 because of different answers between documenturies, movies and maybe teachers.
If you would have had ‘not sure’ or whatever in the poll it may had been easier for some to choose. SInce there is the Maya Calander and scientist and then people not believing in it ot can be very confusing for people to choose what to believe or not.
