Another Expert Agrees With Dark Comet Theory

February 21, 2013 – 11:31 am | No Comment

Astronomer David Asher (from Armagh University) has agreed with Bill Napier and Janaki Wickramasinghe (Cardiff University) that “dark comets” are real and dangerous.
The following quotes are from a paper by Napier and Asher published in Astronomy & Geophysics.

We know that about one bright comet (of absolute magnitude as bright as 7, comparable to Halley’s Comet) arrives in the visibility zone (perihelion q<5AU, say) each year from the Oort cloud. It seems to be securely established that ~1–2% of these are captured into Halleytype (HT) orbits. The dynamical lifetime of a body in such an orbit can be estimated, from which the expected number of HT comets is perhaps ~3000. The actual number of active HT comets is ~25. This discrepancy of at least two powers of 10 in the expected impact rate from comets as deduced from this theoretical argument on the one hand, and observations on the other, is …

2012 and the Fear of Fear

Submitted by on May 12, 2010 – 10:32 am3 Comments

Often when I mention 2012, people tell me that it’s all about making money, because the general public love to consume anything regarding the end of the world. This statement is true, if you spend a bit more time qualifying it. People love hearing about a future doomsday, if:

  • you can sum in up in a sentence or two, making it an easy conversation point, just like the weather
  • it is big + visual, like a supervolcano or a comet
  • they can say “yeah, but it will probably never happen”

Tell someone that 2012 will really mark the end of the world, and they’ll probably quickly change the topic.

A good indicator of popular memes is books being published. Authors tend to write about things that interest them, and people buy books that interest them. Looking at the ideas presented by 2012 books will give an indication of what people want to know about 2012 (and therefore we can determine what they do not wish to hear…).

My methodology was pretty simple – search Amazon for books on 2012 (ranked by popularity), and categorize them. Here’s the results:

New Age: 17 titles
Biblical: 2
Fiction: 7
Reptilian / Conspiracy: 2
General Overview: 10
Science / History: 2
Doom’n’Gloom: 5

Just 11% of the books (Doom’n’Gloom) provide any in-depth looks at 2012 that would cause you to worry about your own demise. And 3 of those 5 books are by Patrick Geryl (the others are by Lawrence E Joesph & Janice Manning).

My conclusion is that, despite what is commonly thought, when confronted with a date for the end of the world, most of us would prefer to read fiction, or new age books that tell us we will be “transformed”, or books that give a general overview so we can pick and choose which aspects to believe. Fear-mongering will not make you rich.

I’ve got a poll going on my website, asking what people think will happen and it’s pretty clear you’re right. Most people scoff or roll their eyes. They don’t want to hear the wolf’s at the door, only that he was sent on his way.

Human Nature Is Our True Enemy
    By Don Madden
All this hype about 2012…now Hollywood has come out with the movie. It’s time to put things into perspective. Let me give you the scoop.

You want predictions? Take it from someone who hit the nail on the head when I wrote my view of the world in 2003. What did I see? I saw the economical collapse in 2008 and 2009. I saw gas prices hitting $3.00 per gallon…..they hit $4.00! I saw the rise of government control of our lives increasing to a point of borderline Socialism/Communism. I saw the cameras on virtually every street corner watching our every move and I warned of the millions of Americans that were about to lose their life savings and 401k’s. And that my friends, was only a small part of what I revealed in my article.

Here is my prediction for the year 2012 based on my observance, research, statistics, and common sense.

First of all, let’s get it straight from the “get-go.” The world will not end. Let’s get it real. But the world as know it, will end…not physically but psychologically.

Humans react to impending events. We all know this. At Christmas time, we shop for the big day. At Thanksgiving, we prepare for the big feast. In August, parents with schoolchildren shop for the new school clothes. Think about it. Common sense, right? Now let’s raise the level of expectation.

What do so many of us do when the weather prediction calls for a foot or two of snow within the next 24 hours? Well, from our own experiences, we go to the market to stock up on bread, milk, eggs, batteries and anything else that will get us through the next month because we panic. Home Depot runs out of shovels, ice melt, and snow blowers. The market reveals it’s long aisles of empty shelves where bread, milk, snacks and batteries used to be, before the impending ice age sets in. People rush to the banks to pull cash out for fear of power failures and isolation. Gas stations have long lines of panicked drivers filling their tanks. With all these human emotions overwhelming us, how do you think the human race will react to the impending “doom” of 2012? Here it is.

We educated people are already talking about the year 2012. It is a fact that hundreds of thousands of us educated people are stockpiling canned goods, candles and fuel. Now, let’s take a look at our worldwide associates and third world countries. Many of them are of a spiritual nature and live their lives based on prior prophets, soothsayers, and biblicle predictions.

With all this in mind, the level of expectation will no doubt be at an all time HISTORICAL high throughout the entire world. But before I go on, there is one scientific fact, that our sun will engage itself in an increase in sun spots and solar flares. This happens periodically, and naturally. It has affected satellite transmissions in the past, but nothing major. Just an occasional temporary loss in cell phone service. Now, because NASA has predicted that it will be one of the largest solar storms ever recorded, it is predicted that a few more satellite transmissions may in fact be temporarily affected and aurora borealis may be seen much further south than the usual distant northern areas of the earth. That’s it.

I see it now………there will be many more Hollywood movies created that will tell the tale of the possible destruction of the world due to those events and the ending of the Mayan Calendar. US world and news magazines and live news reports will air stories of how people are feeling and reacting to the pending doom. We are allready beaten up psychologically about the current world events in regards to the nuclear threat from various nations, wars, famine and disease. Common sense is truly taking a beating and some of us just want to give in and give up. So, with all this in mind once again, this is what I believe will consume us in late 2011 and throughout the year 2012. Read on.

As we are bombarded constantly with these idealogical dilemmas, there will be food, fuel, survival supply and cash shortages due to the media pressure of our demise. People will hoard all these things in hopes it will get them through the catastrophe that so many believe will happen, such as a worldwide earthquake as the world flips itself into a new axis. During 2012 when the news reports start covering the solar flares and the interruption of satellite service, how do you think people will react. It will only drive people to think it is really happening. I see it now. A worldwide financial collapse will unfold as billions of people react to so much of this idealogical mumbo jumbo. 2008/2009 will seem a mere drop in the bucket in comparison. Violence will increase at a record level around the world as the hoarding of food, supplies and money greatly increase. Governments will try to control the eratic and unpredictable behavior of its people. The History Channel, already airing several times a month, shows of Nostradamus’s dire predictions and the Mayan Calendar ending, will only increase as we get closer to 2012. I recently watched the History Channel’s airing of the “Seed Bunker” that has been built and currently being stockpiled with “seeds” and other survival supplies. The seeds are of virtually every single edible plant that grow in this world that supply food throughout the world. This place is located in the far reaches of Northern (I believe it is Finland or Norway, just can’t remember exactly), tucked deep into a mountainside with many, many foot thick walls, ceiling and floors, that is hoped would survive a nuclear, meteor impact, or any other catastrophic event that could happen. It is being stockpiled on a daily basis with many countries involved. It is also supposedly designed to house many, many thousands of “important” people that manage this world. Do you see what I mean? Reaction has already begun.
Multiply this reaction and all the other smaller reactions taking place worldwide and what is the scale of reaction we will see in 2012? I fear not the end of the world due to idealogical fantasy of Earth’s physical destruction, but rather the human race’s reaction. This will be the demise of the world as we know it now.

So during the next 2 years, when we hear of a pending snowstorm or hurricane, think about your reaction before the pending event. Will you buy enough bread and milk to carry you through the next 6 months?

Don’t fear the end of the physical world, fear the collapse of mankind as he reacts to a pending fantasy.

    Don Madden
