Chinese "Tomb" of Emperor Qin Shihuang - A Pyramid
In Science magazine, (Vol 325, pages 22-23), I was amazed to read what is perhaps the most mundane description of a pyramid ever:

The above image is from the People's Daily Online. It is a refreshing change from the hill we usually see:

That the Chinese pyramids are in fact pyramids has been very under-investigated. Pyramids in Egypt and Americas have been argued to be a coincidence. How many more do we need before orthodox archaeologists consider that a common culture created them all?
Samoa, Indonesia, Central America, Egypt, China, Bosnia, Chile... can't be a coincidence!
Soon after Qin took power, he began preparing for the afterlife. Construction of his mausoleum at Mount Li, 35 kilometers east of Xi'an, took 38 years. The mausoleum, once crowned with pavilions, was never a secret, and even today it is visible as a kilometer-long wooded mound that rises a gentle 75 meters above the surrounding land. And here is the mausoleum that gently rises 75 meters:

Why can't it be a coincidence?
The square is a very basic form, fiund and named in almost all cultures.
Creating an artificial hill is what I can see my kids do almost every day, so it must be in human nature.
Combine the two, and we have a pyramid.
Further take into account that mots buildings are made on a square grid, it is not more than logic to me that to make an elevated temple or mausoleum, or ? is to do it on a square mountain, a pyramid.
We all come from common ancestors somewhere in history, so there is no coincidence there either ( or the opposite :)?
I'ld rather talk about a common conscience than coincidence!
its one thing to have a square and hill building urges within cultures, but to actually build pyramids of similar size and square based is no coincidence .
common culture sense has built square cube like buildings to live, so pyramids would either have been seen by travelers of far and wide and or past on in story telling information about what had already been seen.
I think coincidence is a word made for poor excuses for those who cannot explain or question any other way. I also believe we are not discovering anything new, only realizing and awakening to remember what and where we have been before.
