Survivalists in Florida

May 19, 2012 – 11:49 pm | One Comment

Great article in the Miami New Times last week, profiling preppers and survivalists like these folk:
Jorge Villa – after a terrifying experience during Hurricane Andrew he devised his own bunkers, and sells them to folk – some of whom are worried about the end of the Mayan calendar – via his business U.S. Bunkers
Neal Wiseman – moderates a group called the South Florida Survivalist Network, and has a year’s worth of food stored for his family, should the need arise:

Chris Petrovich – prepper for 25 years. He has helped others “cache extra fuel and food, stashed in public-storage units and underground, at intervals on an 800-to-1,200-mile path out of Florida. Amid darkness and chaos, skirting burning sugarcane fields and accidents and roadblocks, they’ll drive from cache to cache toward a secret inland hiding spot, exhausting the last available remnants of the petroleum age.”
While Petrovich himself plans on staying, I agree with …

Seed Vaults

Seed Vaults

Previously I have mentioned the amazing seed vault in Norway, that seemingly offers plants a better chance of surviving a cataclysm than humans have.
Other places to find species kept safe include:
Native Seeds – 2000 plant varieties in Tucson, USA.
Ambrose Monell Cryo Collection – houses a million frozen tissue samples representing the DNA of a wide range of animal species. Located in New York City.
Millennium Seed Bank Project – large underground frozen vaults in West Sussex, UK, preserving the world’s largest collection of seeds. Now has over 1 billion seeds stored. Aiming to cover 24,000 species of plants, approximately 10% of all existing dry land flora.

Blue Eyes only 10,000 Years Old

Blue Eyes only 10,000 Years Old

According to Discover magazine, “blue eyes have their hue because of a single genetic mutation that occurred fewer than 10,000 years ago in one individual and swept rapidly through the European population…”
The most likely cause of the mutation spreading would be that individual having lots of children…
Various theories vaguely related to 2012 include ancient races known by names such as the Watchers, Angels, Annunaki, Atlanteans, Nephilim and so on. They are generally depicted as either being lizard-like, or Elvish (think LOTR).
Could this mutation have come from one of these speculative races? If so, what was their relation with humans? Did this individual just happen to have lots of children with human partners, or were the conceptions forced, or even experimental in nature?
Food for thought.

This one is a real zinger!

Last one, I promise – but this email that arrived today is so, how should I say, representative, I felt it was worth sharing. Back to real news next post.
Hey There! I stumbled upon your site. I had the delight of being one of the officers to pull a group of innocent children out of a doomsday cult 2 years ago. I see that you are thinking that Ben Radford is weak for dismissing 2012 . I think people like yourself really need to wake up. More like, people that are supporting a doomsday, Thats not going to happen as you portray it, are pretty sick, and 99% of us don’t condone your idiotic thoughts on such a pathetic hoax. You may not be a terrible person. But many people thinking like you do, here in America, brain wash people and molest little kids. Prophecies are not science and yes, …

The Five Stages of Accepting 2012

The Five Stages of Accepting 2012

I have present these in the classic order, although they can happen in any order, and not everybody will experience all five stages. Some folk might only experience two. See Wikipedia for more information on the Kübler-Ross model
Denial
It is very easy to deny a doomsday in 2012, for there is zero evidence so far that suggests anything bad will happen. Humans (in the western world) are almost unique in that they tend not to fear anything external. While we worry about being harmed by other humans, about death & disease, we don’t really acknowledge our potential demise from space and nature. We know that tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes and asteroids can kill us, but we don’t lose sleep over it. And when such a menace rears its head, we expect to be able to just run away, or bunker down.
Anger
After running a 2012 site for 9 years, I’ve noticed that many …

The Great Escape: 20 People Leaving the Matrix

I think it is fair to say, that as 2012 approaches, more and more radical interpretations, and reactions, will become known to us. Hopefully nothing as extreme as Heaven’s Gate.
This group of 20 or so Belgians mention 2012 a fair bit, but say they feel the world is doomed, with or without the end of the Mayan Calendar.
The 2012 folks on the net might be more dangerous than what will actually happen to you some 4 years from now… These prophecy folks are after two things, your mind or your money.
They have decided to leave the Matrix, and invite others to join them:
Requirements are:- age between 20 and 40, preferably couples- no kids or pets- good mental and physical health- intelligent and specific useful knowledge (see previous posts)- fluently French or Spannish and English (the more languages the better)- be ready to leave home, car, work, money, family and …

The Little Bacterium That Could

Candidatus Desulforudis audaxviator doesn’t need sunlight, doesn’t even need photosynthesis. Therefore it is not so surprising it was discovered 3 kilometres below the Earth’s surface in a South African goldmine.
Report from New Scientist:
Such a self-sufficient organism is virtually unheard of. It means the ecosystem’s only species must extract everything it needs from an otherwise dead environment.
…Chivian’s analysis shows that the new bacterium gets its energy from the radioactive decay of uranium in the surrounding rocks. It also has genes to extract carbon and nitrogen from its environment – both essential for making proteins.
“It’s philosophically exciting to know that everything necessary for life can be packed into a single genome,” says Chivian. NASA’s Chris McKay says this is just the kind or organism that could survive on Mars.
They fall short of suggesting it may have come from Mars, or elsewhere.

Solar Storm Could Cause $2 Trillion in Damage!

Just in from SpaceWeather.com, news of a study that quantifies the potential damage of the worst solar storms:
The 132-page document examines what might happen to our high-tech modern society in the event of a super solar flare followed by an extreme geomagnetic storm. Such a storm did occur in the year 1859. It electrified telegraph lines, shocking technicians and setting telegraph papers on fire; Northern Lights as far south as Cuba were so bright, you could read a newspaper by their eerie glow.
According to the report, “a contemporary repetition of that event would cause significantly more extensive (and possibly catastrophic) social and economic disruptions.” The report warns of widespread failures in telecommunications, electric power, banking and finance, and transportation; even water supplies could be disrupted. The total economic impact in the first year alone could reach $2 trillion–about 15 times greater than the costs of Hurricane Katrina. Depending on …

Could HAARP be used for Reiser’s crazy ideas?

Could HAARP be used for Reiser’s crazy ideas?

Oliver L. Reiser is not very well known, but he did some work with Einstein, and I suspect he was the first person to suggest that evolution could be driven by massive influxes of cosmic rays. Read the following carefully, for it suggests to me that HAARP could be used to zap the planet, causing great harm to most of us, but for the greater good of evolving us into higher beings:
In 1936, Dr. Reiser, introduced and promoted the concept of “radio-eugenics” in the scientific Journal of Heredity. This entails applications of radiation for evolution. In 1945 Dr. Reiser was impressed by think tank founder Julius Stulman’s article called “Applied Energy to Social Relations.” In the 1965 publication of “Cosmic Humanism” that is highly praised by Stulman’s Institute for Integrative Education, the concept of radio-eugenics is promoted in synthesis with the concept of nondual harmonic resonance. Dr. Reiser states that …

What role might HAARP play in 2012?

What role might HAARP play in 2012?

According to a Russian government report cited in Wikipedia, with HAARP “the U.S. is creating new integral geophysical weapons that may influence the near-Earth medium with high-frequency radio waves … The significance of this qualitative leap could be compared to the transition from cold steel to firearms, or from conventional weapons to nuclear weapons. This new type of weapons differs from previous types in that the near-Earth medium becomes at once an object of direct influence and its component.”
Marie sent me this link:HAARP – Holes In Heaven
Just under one hour long, this video is a very interesting look at admitted and disputed capabilities of HAARP. Those against the project suggest that the potential effects of the experiments performed there are unknown, and consequently they are risking the health of our planet.
Opponents claim that HAARP could be used for:
- knocking out enemy satellites- knocking out missiles- altering our ionosphere and …

Mysterious Light Pillars from Latvia

Mysterious Light Pillars from Latvia

Even two leading experts in atmospheric optics can’t quite figure them out: “These pillars are mysterious,” say Les Cowley and Marko Riikonen. “They have unexplained curved tops and even curved arcs coming from their base.
http://spaceweather.com
Light pillars are a known phenomenon, but they usually look like this:

The Cause
———-
Columns of light apparently beaming directly upwards from unshielded (and wastefully polluting) lights are sometimes visible during very cold weather. Plate shaped ice crystals, normally only present in high clouds, float in the air close to the ground and their horizontal facets reflect light back downwards.
