Ice Age Ended Suddenly in 9703BC

If it is accurate and beyond dispute, we finally have a date we can use. A definitive moment in time in which a global cataclysm may have occurred. And an interesting puzzle for scientists that believe everything happens gradually.

A Danish ice drilling project has conclusively ended the discussion on the exact date of the end of the last ice age.

The extensive scientific study shows that it was precisely 11,711 years ago - and not the indeterminate figure of ‘some’ 11,000 years ago – that the ice withdrew, allowing humans and animals free reign.

“Our new, extremely detailed data from the examination of the ice cores shows that in the transition from the ice age to our current warm, interglacial period the climate shift is so sudden that it is as if a button was pressed”, explains ice core researcher Jørgen Peder Steffensen, Centre for Ice and Climate at NBI at the University of Copenhagen.

As long as this research is not disputed, I shall be using the year 9703 BC as the date for that cataclysm / crustal shift. This fits in very well with Plato's date for the destruction of Atlantis. He said it happened 9000 years before Solon (638 BC–558 BC), which is approximately 9600BC. While it is possible Plato meant precisely 9000 years, it is more likely he meant roughly.

Allan & Delair's wonderful book Cataclysm! uses the date of 9500BC.

Ice cores have shown that glaciers began to form on Mount Kilimanjaro in 9700BC.

A quick search of Google shows evidence of a cataclysm on that date (even though the authors didn't know it...)

9703BC is the new year zero. There was a pole shift. And for some reason, those humans that survived were suddenly much more civilised...

Very timely information as we try to make final assessments on what may happen in the next few years based on events in the past being of cyclical nature. At last it would seem the cataclysms brought about by the sudden largely unexplained melting of the ice age glaciers, is solidly dated.

Now to crunch the numbers!

A geology instructor at my university has told me that he and his peers believe that ice ages have transition phases of about 10 years.

They believe we are overdue for one of these changes as well as being way overdue for a polar shift.

He also was very direct, in a sort of high brow fashion, about how global warming is not as it is being presented to us. This was over 4 years ago.

Ice ages historically have happened about every 11,500 yr's so we are due for one.For the most part the Mayans have been right.I can't believe they're wrong now..

Rob,
This information timeline also closely agrees with previous information in regard to a metior hitting in (what is now)Canada, directly north of the Indian/Ohio border about 12,900 years ago,"near the end of the last ice age"! I enjoy reading your blogs!

Best Regards, MM

Does this mean that I don't have to pay off my mortgage or save for my kid's education?

"For the most part the Mayans have been right"? Um, I guess you don't mean the cutting-out-live-victims'-hearts-on-a-huge-pyramid-for-the-sun part, right?

Don't want to rain on your parade, but a lot of people have been predicting doomsday for thousands of years and yes, it has to come to an end sooner or later. You might want to find somewhat more credible sources for your doom scenarios than the Mayan religion... but hey, what do i know. You can tell me "I told you so" if the world is coming to an end, but I doubt I will be checking my email or your blog at the time.

For those who are really interested in looking further into this, I am currently reading Fingerprints of the God's by Graham Hancock. In one chapter he describes his research into the incredibly fast and dramatic changes that occurred as the ice melted. So fast that remains of animals have been found with undigested fruit in their mouths and stomach. The meat was also so quickly frozen that Mammoth is actually being served in Fairbanks Alaska in present day.

There is much much more fascinating facts on this and other aspects of our ancient history in Fingerprints of the God's, so I highly recommend it.

No I did not get paid to tell you this :)

The Mayans didn't predict the end of the world...but of an age. People have twisted it that way.
