Survivalists in Florida

Great article in the Miami New Times last week, profiling preppers and survivalists like these folk:
Jorge Villa – after a terrifying experience during Hurricane Andrew he devised his own bunkers, and sells them to folk – some of whom are worried about the end of the Mayan calendar – via his business U.S. Bunkers
Neal Wiseman – moderates a group called the South Florida Survivalist Network, and has a year’s worth of food stored for his family, should the need arise:

Chris Petrovich – prepper for 25 years. He has helped others “cache extra fuel and food, stashed in public-storage units and underground, at intervals on an 800-to-1,200-mile path out of Florida. Amid darkness and chaos, skirting burning sugarcane fields and accidents and roadblocks, they’ll drive from cache to cache toward a secret inland hiding spot, exhausting the last available remnants of the petroleum age.”
While Petrovich himself plans on staying, I agree with …

Bedu Emergency Rapid Response Kit

Submitted by Robert Bast on June 9, 2008 – 5:18 am2 Comments

Unfortunately you can’t buy it – it’s only a concept at this stage. But it looks like a marvellous idea for current disasters and possibly some 2012 ones.

Inside the 50-gallon drum you would find a tent, storage annex, photovoltaic strip tarpaulin/blanket, multifuel stove, lighting rig, tool kid, medical kit, water filtration system, generator and battery pack and emergency radio. Just parachute it to wherever it is needed.

Pictures of its deployment are here.

Looks like a great concept depending on the price. Barrel looks to be a poly or polyfoam barrel which would make the weight alot less. I think if they are under 100 pounds they would be great for a family emergency bug out stash or emergency group shelter. Good compact design. You can't pack everything in one pack but this is a good start.

I have news for you, they have been testing this system regularly for at lease the past several weeks and not just this day. Boy do they have everyone food as the prepare for the American take over with our own warships off the Fla coast, The extraction of troops from all over the different Nations to which they were sent to return right here in the U.S.A. as Obama Heads for a Dictatorship takeover of this country! All this while the Americans lie waiting in sleep mode? The Americans think talking it over will come to a resolution and continually refuse to see the signs. If the Government really wanted to discuss anything it would stop from its ongoing agenda. They also plan to starve you in to submission as well through the use of the H.A.A.R.P System. Once your food dwindles which will eventually happen no matter how much you have stocked, you will agree to their terms just for food. These will be the ones who went into hiding during the conflict to come very shortly. It is also why they built this system in Canada. Too keep it from your reach or clutches. The whole world needs to consider this system in Canada as it will be upon everyone as a control mechanism? Sure, you say you will plant a garden to secure your future needs. And they will wait for you to do so and take you into custody as well?
