Tenerife: Pyramids and now a Cosmic Clock
Thor Heyerdahl publicised the existence of small step pyramids in the Canary Islands, and now the same island has turned up a piece of stone 44 centimetres high and 34 wide that supposedly marks the equinoxes. Not bad for a little island with no apparent historical importance.

Experts: Crystal Skulls are fake
These findings are due to appear in The Journal of Archaeological Science:
…research suggests two well-known crystal skulls, in the British Museum and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, are not, after all, from ancient Mexico. Academics now believe the British skull was made in 19th-century Europe and the American one even later.
The British Museum bought its skull, a life-size carving from a single block of rock crystal, from Tiffany and Co., New York, in 1897, …and a larger white quartz skull donated to the Smithsonian in 1992.
The scientists have concluded that, because the source of the quartz used was probably Brazil or Madagascar (and ancient cultures didn’t communicate), and because both skulls “were carved with rotary disc-shaped tool, a technology the ancient Mexicans didn’t have” – that therefore they were made in modern times.
Both assumptions are at odds with those who believe in advanced ancient cultures, but in this case …
Our Sun is quiet, almost too quiet…
The scientists said periods of inactivity are normal for the sun, but this period has gone on longer than usual.
“It continues to be dead,” said Saku Tsuneta with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, program manager for the Hinode solar mission. “That’s a small concern, a very small concern.”
It could be that the Sun is just saving up for a massive amount of activity in 2012. Or, on the other hand, it could do nothing for 50 years and give us a mini ice age like we had from 1650 to 1700.

Black Hole Jet Blasts Nearby Galaxy
A powerful jet from a super massive black hole is blasting a nearby galaxy, according to new findings from NASA observatories. This never-before witnessed galactic violence may have a profound effect on planets in the jet’s path and trigger a burst of star formation in its destructive wake.
…Jets from super massive black holes produce high amounts of radiation, especially high-energy X-rays and gamma-rays, which can be lethal in large quantities. The combined effects of this radiation and particles traveling at almost the speed of light could severely damage the atmospheres of planets lying in the path of the jet. For example, protective layers of ozone in the upper atmosphere of planets could be destroyed.
Not to be specifically fearful of, but a nice reminder of the forces that are out there in space. If we understood them better, maybe we could predict or dismiss the possibilities of 2012.

Inside the 50-gallon drum you would find a tent, storage annex, photovoltaic strip tarpaulin/blanket, multifuel stove, lighting rig, tool kid, medical kit, water filtration system, generator and battery pack and emergency radio. Just parachute it to wherever it is needed.

Ark II – Before its time?
Ark II, located in Ontario, is an extraordinary network of 42 old buses, welded together and buried in a pit, to create a massive survival bunker. Construction began in 1980. Creator Bruce Beach is interviewed by CANOE:
Ark II sits under farmland — 42 buried buses, all connected to form a 929-square-metre bunker. They are covered with at least 2.4 metres of earth, as well as concrete.
The site has long been a thorn in the side of provincial officials, who conduct regular raids and safety inspections. They’d like it wiped off the map.
…The floor is a patchwork of degrading linoleum and worn wood, along with concrete.
“Much like a sub,” says Bruce. “A lot of people can’t handle the claustrophobia.”
Contractors hired to do work sometimes refuse to venture down into the vehicular cavern.

Cataclysm Due Any Time Now
Dutch scientists have reported that our planet’s magnetic field is becoming gradually less stable.
“On average, there is a reversal around every 400,000 years, but this varies a lot.” The geological record suggests that the last reversal was around 800,000 years ago.
Furthermore, there is already evidence to show that the field has been weakening over the last few centuries – some archaeological remains suggest that the field was far stronger in the time of the Roman Empire, some 2,000 years ago.
They say the next reversal could happen in the next few centuries, or it could be a million years away. But they are sure that the process takes thousands of years to complete. I would respectfully suggest that their measurements of the prior reversals are not accurate enough to tell if it happened more suddenly (like, in a day).

People in Mexico 40,000 Years Ago
The combination of footprints in volcanic ash being dated 40,000 years ago, fitting in with another Mexican discovery of “shells that have been carbon-dated as 44,000 years old, a finding that bolsters the notion that people lived throughout the region about 40 millennia ago.”
Bye bye standard migration theory, hello all the other possibilities!
