Thanks for covering the metal scene's consciousness of and participation in the 2012 movement!

    Here's a punk/metal fest counting down to 2012:

The Second Annual Serpent Descends Countdown to 2012 Fest
Los Angeles, CA December 26th 2009

Featuring Resistant Culture, L.A.’s "Tribal Grindcrust Warriors", this event celebrates the 2009 winter solstice and the 3 year countdown to December 21st, 2012.

Musically, Resistant Culture is the development of extreme and tribal music that has weaved the indigenous flute, rattle, tribal drum, and chant into an organic and flowing tapestry with contemporary punk and metal. They founded this event last year to establish a punk and metal community presence in the 2012 movement.

Behind the recent Hollywood hype, and beyond apocalyptic religious cults, the grassroots 2012 movement has been working hard to promote an alternative vision for this time of shifting ages. While catastrophic events appear scattered across the horizon of humanity's near future, in chaos there is opportunity.

We now stand at the brink of either great transformation or great destruction. Having lost the skills and cultural values of self-sufficiency and sustainable relationships to local ecologies, modern society has exponentially increased it's vulnerability to collapse. The abandonment and destruction of natural systems has left much of humanity helpless in the face of the slightest breakdown of the economy, the electrical grid, the flow of oil, the food supply, the immune system, etc.

The dominant culture established itself in total defiance of the cycles of planet Earth, the Sun, and the stars. It's estranged from the galaxy and lost in time. Ancient Mayan cosmology and other indigenous prophecies, such as those of the Hopi, warn of a shift of world ages to occur in our time. Those who fear change may suffer greatly. But those who embrace it and prepare for it may have a “once in a 5,000+ year opportunity” to escape from industrial slavery and return to a healing earth.

December 21st, 2012 is a culturally, spiritually, and astronomically significant event and should be celebrated as such; whether or not it's "doomsday" doesn't matter. The 2012 meme may simply awaken and scare some of us out of the rat race and incite a rapid shift towards community building, food growing, natural healing, local barter economies, survival planning, etc. While Y2K exposed only one glitch in one system, twelve years later planetary consciousness has evolved, and much greater danger can now be perceived. It's difficult to deny that many artificial life support systems are approaching crisis.

Preparation precludes panic. Hopefully the positive social psychology of disaster can be evoked, one that melts our shallow feuding, bigotry, and xenophobia and brings us together in compassion and reverence for the sacred gift of life.

The Serpent Descends Countdown to 2012 Fest is an attempt to bring together the radical and extreme underground music scenes to share the consciousness of unity, community, and responsibility for the planet, ourselves, and the future generations.

There will be vegan/vegetarian food, art and music vendors, an array of socially, politically, culturally, and environmentally conscious bands spanning the punk, metal, crust, and grind genres, art, and multimedia depicting the nightmare of slavery and destruction and the dreams of liberation and creation.
